Theme: Deconstructing Dementia – a Carer’s Perspective is a series of photographs with accompanying text, offering an insight into the world of dementia.
In 2012 my mother was diagnosed with early onset dementia, and at that point she did not want anyone to know. Aware of the stigma accompanying the condition, she suggested in 2013 we work together to highlight the difficulties we both faced/would face in our roles as person with dementia and carer. My mother initiated the idea of a collaboration between us, and the research project Deconstructing Dementia- a Carer’s Perspective commenced.
The intention of this work is to reduce stigma, exclusion and fear as stated in the G8 Dementia Summit Declaration in London, 2013.
